Change we can believe in

If you are a reader of this blog (likely not) you notice it has begun to sound like a one note record. Not much variation thereof from the usual loser rant of "the world sucks, I suck, yada yada yada ad nauseum" et al. Without Standards and Practices controlling content, things can become pretty monotonous indeed, much like my diet and the lives of ants.

We could speak here to-day about the impending bankruptcy and State ownership of Government Motors. But would I not be repeating myself yet again?

Indeed, there is much to celebrate. In my possession I now have a new chrome plated portable computer, the modern equivalent to the gaudy NBC late 1970s "N" ident of empty glamour fame.

So let us effect change we can truly believe in, unlike that counterfeit alteration from our Supreme Leaders in the Capitol City, itself no stranger to empty glamour of the chrome plating variety.

The story ideas are a'churning again, and so I have returned to the pen (or more precisely, the keyboard), with the wry hope that a new MS Office suite will prove suitably inspiring to effect completion. The companion blog, as you may have noticed, has not been upd*ted due to lack of material, which you can pin solely on the headwriter and his inability to tell a story creatively without losing his train of thought somewhere before the second act.

Happy turkey day

I don't know what you did to-day, but I got my belly full.

Have a happy turkey day, and above all, be thankful for what you've got (in the immortal words of Curtis Mayfield) - or at least what you have right now. Because in the coming time of starvation, the miniscule advantages will become much more important.

Short and sweet

Just a poast to let y'all know dat I'm still alive. The burning desire to pour my thoughts and opinions into this space is lying low right now due to other committments and anticipated events in the near future.

Oh, and Ron Paul is on the Presidential ballot in Louisiana. Guess who I'll be voting for this November...

Classic class

Another pet peeve of mine of late has been automobiles - namely, the styling thereof:

Here is a typical modern pupmobile: crafted of cheap plastic, aluminium, and glass, a deathtrap waiting to happen, a stylistic cacaphony of blandness.

On to the vehicle of choice for the debt orgy class:

The simple, economical SUV (/sarcasm): ten miles to the gallon, manufactured from the same crappy materials, a stylistic disaster.

Not to mention that these vehicles are incredible deals - just plunk down $30K in the form of five years' worth of recurring debt, and this trash can be yours!

But lo, it was not always this way! Here is one of Detroit's offerings from forty years past:

Perhaps one of the finest automobiles around, the Oldsmobile Cutlass. I was a proud owner of a Cutlass in times past. Sadly, it was a 1995 model, and by then GM had completely abandoned any pretense of careful design for its products.

A second generation Cutlass from the middle 1960s.

And not to forget the working man. The working man, many years ago, could be the proud owner of this moving work of art:

A 1973 Chevrolet Caprice!

These vehicles populated my youth. Whatever happened to good taste in automobile design? And not only at GM, Ford, or Chrysler, but elsewhere:

I rest my case.

It's Friday the 13th

YEEESSS...today brings an occurrence of that unfortunate date, Friday the thirteenth. A day where the rampages of the Antichrist scours the land. Of course in Bushamerica, every day is like this now, so ho-hum.

Have a happy day! And try not to be slain by Mabus' armies.

Still writing

I'm on page 55 now! Will keep you posted (literally).

Musings for the day

If a bear breaks wind in the forest when nobody is around, does it make a sound?

If you were a hot dog, and you were hungry, would you eat yourself?

I'm tired

Ah busted mah ass today. (As the welfare to work folk would say. If they only knew what real work was....)

The next few days look to be busy. So fewer posts than usual are in store.

Of course, I doubt many of you care one way or the other.

Back to the old bump n' grind

It's Monday morning. So what are you still doing at home right now? Get up and go to work! If you don't have a job or a legitimate reason to stay at home, go find one - make yourself productive.

Oh, and this blog celebrates its first week in existence today. Woo hoo!

27 March 2008

It's Thursday

That lost and forgotten day of the work week.

On Monday, you wake up and groan since you know there's a long week ahead.
On Tuesday, there's still a lot of the week left to face.
Wednesday is 'hump day' (no not that kind of hump). Half the week's over - that's cause for at least a tiny bit of celebration.
Friday - TGIF! End of the week, the weekend's around the corner.

Thursday is like going on a date with your sister. It is boring to comtemplate. Thursday means, and stands for, nothing. It's just another work day. Not late enough in the week to be exciting, and not early enough to arouse great passion.

The motto of Thursday should be "So close, and yet so far."

Food glorious food

Being a public sector worker my paycheck may not be very large, but I receive a benefit which is becoming increasingly and vanishingly rare in the modern working world - a full hour lunch hour!

Lunch is definitely the most satisfying meal of the day. It is said that breakfast is supposed to be the most important meal, but I have never really seen a need for breakfast and I don't usually eat one. (Unless I have a real burning desire for a McDonalds bacon/egg/cheese biscuit.) I can even skip a real dinner if necessary. Lunch, however, is an essential.

The region where I live is world famous for its excellent cuisine and a tradition of eating out in style. So I get the best of both worlds here.

Eat on that, Bi-Coasters!
