Last November a great blow against history was committed in this parish when the Kansas City Southern Railroad demolished one of the few classic Buckminster Fuller geodesic domes in existence.
This particular dome was constructed in 1958 to house a railroad turntable and maintenance facility for the Union Tank Car Company, but as of its last years was more or less left to abandonment:
Like everything else once productive in America, left to ruin and an uncertain future, eventually terminating in the wrecker's ball.
A few forlorn snaps of the doomed facility which have managed to preserve it for posterity. Little did I know that soon after I captured this famous facility on camera, it would disappear virtually without notice...
